After a long day at work, it’s blissful to pop a squat on the couch, bust out your favorite glass piece and have yourself a delicious bowl o’ relaxation. While it’s lovely to sit in silence and contemplate the day, other times it’s nice to have some entertainment going on the TV. What better way to entertain yourself during your smoke sesh than by watching some stoner movies? Here’s our list of what we think are the top 13 stoner movies of all time.
1. Dazed and Confused
Release Date: 1993
QOTD: “You gotta keep on livin’… L-I-V-I-N.” — Wooderson
Set in Austin, TX, this classic stoner movie revolves around a group of teenagers enjoying their last day of high school with plenty of booze, pot, and adventure.
2. The Big Lebowski
Release Date: 1998
QOTD: “Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not “Mr. Lebowski”. You’re Mr. Lebowski. I’m the Dude. So that’s what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you’re not into the whole brevity thing.” – The Dude
This is one of those movies you can watch over and over and never get tired of. Mistaken for someone else, Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski, goes in search of recompense and ends up with an odd job. Both aided and hindered by his two friends, The Dude tries his hand at being a reliable bagman. Good, stupid humor. It’s awesome.
3. Pineapple Express

Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time smoking the wrong blunt. Oof. After dropping a blunt roach at the scene of a murder, Dale Denton is forced on the run with his drug dealer once he realizes the fancy weed he was smoking can be traced directly back to them.
4. Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle

This is the story of two friends who go on a ridiculous quest to satisfy their cravings for White Castle hamburgers.
5. Half Baked
Release Date: 1998
QOTD: “In eleven days I’m as good as skewered! Ever take your clothes off and run backwards through a cornfield?” – Kenny
A Dave Chappelle classic here, folks. After a friend is arrested for feeding a police horse junk food, a group of hooligans set out to sell stolen pharmaceutical pot to raise bail money to get their friend out of jail.
6. Friday
Release Date: 1995

This cult classic is the story of two stoned slackers who have one hell of an unforgettable Friday.
7. Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Release Date: 1982

This is probably one of the best high school dramas ever made. Even though it’s the oldest movie listed on our list, we think it’s one of the best. It’s super funny and filled with all kinds of quotable one-liners.
8. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back

When Jay and Silent Bob find out a movie network is creating a movie about their comic book counterparts without paying them royalties, they decide they will stop at nothing to sabotage the entire flick being made.
9. Grandma’s Boy

This movie is about a 35 year old game tester who ends up having to move back in with his grandma and her two colorful roommates.
10. Super Troopers

If you haven’t seen Super Troopers, then well… we feel sorry for you. This is a GREAT stoner movie about a group of cops in Vermont who are fighting to control drug traffic through their territory.
11. Dude, Where’s My Car?
Release Date: 2000
QOTD: “Wait a second. Let’s recap. Last night we lost my car, we accepted stolen money from a transsexual stripper, and now some space nerds want us to find something we can’t pronounce. I hate to say it, Chester, but maybe we need to cut back on the shibbying.” – Jesse Montgomery
This hilarious stoner movie is about two potheads who wake up and can’t remember where they’ve parked their car. In order to find it, they must embark on a crazy journey filled with tons of silly adventures and interesting characters.
12. How High
Release Date: 2001
QOTD: “Yeah. I figure if I study high, take the test high, get high scores! Right?” – Jamal
You know you’ve got yourself a good stoner flick if Method Man and Redman are starring in it. In this movie, the two hooligans smoke some magical herb, ace their college entrance exams, and end up at Harvard. Hilarity ensues!
13. Up in Smoke
Release Date: 1978

This is the story of two pot smoking slackers who go on a variety of misadventures, including getting arrested for marijuana possession and competing in a rock band competition. Make sure to check out some of Cheech and Chong’s other movies as well. They’re all old stoner classics!
