We LOVE music here at Headed West. Seriously, we rock the he#$ out. But what we really love is local music, especially home grown music here in Colorado. OK, maybe we talk about Colorado way too much but what’s there not to love here? Anyways, let’s stop the blabbing and get to the point of this post – MUSIC!

There is sooooo much good music out right now spreading its’ way across the airwaves. But what about the airwaves at home? It’s extremely important to support the music you love no matter what, but it’s especially important to support home grown music. Why? Well… here are just six reasons why, even though we could go on all day about it…

Why Should You Support Local Music? Cause it’s cool.

1. There’s no better way to help the local economy.

Think about it this way… Local bands need a place to play, they’re going to need marketing materials, things to sell like shirts and koozies, etc. Most of the time, local bands will use other local businesses like bars, t-shirt companies, photographers, graphic designers, and more to help. Huzzah for keeping the money local!

2. Local shows are waaaaay more personal.

It’s true! The majority of the time, local bands are playing in a small venue or bar. We feel like this is way better than standing in the back of the crowd at a giant amphitheater, right? At least with the smaller venues, you can get up right in the bands grill to rock out.

3. It’s a fantastic way to meet new friends.

So maybe it’s easy to make friends at the larger concerts, but we feel like the more intimate events are an easier way to make life long concert friends. You’re most likely going to run into a lot more local music fans at a local show rather than a giant show at Red Rocks or something. New friends are awesome, especially friends that also like the same local music as you.

4. You’re most likely going to become friends with the artists.

You’re most likely going to find local artists hanging around their merch booth. Don’t be afraid to go up and say hello. They’re just normal people trying to make a living by sharing their musical art with the world. No different than the rest of us. So say hello, make new friends, and party like a rock star together!

5. Say hello to all the original music you could hope for.

The majority of local bands and singers write and record their music in the comfort of their own homes. This means these super awesome people are doing the best they can to produce great sounding music without the use of auto-tuning programs like many popular artists. Talk about talent yo.

6. Your musical horizons will be expanded through the local bands you already listen to.

Musicians are people too… and they have lot’s of friends! Some of which are probably in other bands. What better way to explore more local music, through the local musicians you already listen to?!

If you’re looking for a place to listen to some kick a$$ music, then you should check out Blunt Force Stereo. They’re a super awesome 24/7 radio station that was started back in April 2016 by Colorado native (we know it’s a rare breed), Kevon Lei.  While they are a local station, their reach is global and they book & play artists from pretty much anywhere you can imagine (It’s still local music somewhere else right?). That adds up to a pretty decent music library of Rock, Metal, Alternative, and Punk. Ya ready to rock and roll? Anyways… You can catch them at events like the Punk Rock Flea Market and the Colorado Monsters of Madness & Tattoo of Earth Festival but, make sure to follow their Facebook to keep up with all upcoming events!
